Hi
I need to upgrade my company's website and so I wanted to see if we
can also migrate from 3.x to 4 using the STK. While trying to
understand how it works (which is not that easy for me because I am
not a Web developer) I came up with some question on how to use the STK.
I took the STK, installed it and tried to create the home page. First
I wanted to customize the header adding our company logo. This leads
me to the /templating-kit/themes/pop/css/styles CSS file where I
finally could figure out what dimension the logo should have in order
to work without changes that CSS file. Also I guess that any layout
changes like colors etc have to be changed there.
This leads to the 'Templating-Kit/Site Configuration' where I can
select a theme (style/cssFiles/..). This configuration is found in the
STK jar file.
This gives me two choices:
A) Take POP theme, adjust it to my needs and deploy it as such
B) Create my own theme (copying POP), deploy it as own JAR file but
then I need to change the settings in the 'Templating-Kit/Site
Configuration' .
For my little website adjusting POP is good enough even though my
developer soul cries foul because both solutions (A or B) somehow
defeats the purpose of the STK (at least for the Community Edition).
Most likely I will go with A) because I can create my own JAR file and
deploy it easily without having to mess around with the STK JAR file.
So wouldn't it be possible to extract the 'Templating-Kit/Site
Configuration' into its own JAR file so that a custom Theme can be
selected without having to change the STK. Another way would be to use
a general name for the theme (like default) and then link that the the
one selected.
