If you save a dialog, then all the controls values (incl. file) are stored in the jcr. If you want to see the exact structure you can export the node and look it up in the xml. Alternatively you can look it up via Tools/JCR Browser and you will see the file as a node data (only the path/file name will be shown in the value), however you you try to retrieve it via Magnolia API you will be able to get the binary content.
