I think it's pretty straightforward with Magnolia CMS (like other things ;)

I.e. you can take the advantage of Public user registration module [1] - see an 
example at STK demo-project, which is almost ready for your use case, 
you only need forwarding to client specific sites, not to shared one how it's 
there.
