No I don't think you are overlooking anything. This was never tested so I'm not surprised that it is actually not supported. The implementation should be relatively straightforward (and if you want to provide the patch it would be applied swiftly). However if you plan to use this to serve podcasts from Magnolia I would recommend to store such binaries on some streaming service instead otherwise you can easily starve Magnolia out of resources ...
