Maybe you want to read this [1] more general persistance/DB configuration page. And to answer your question - yes, you can use JNDI datasource, just point to the datasource in the DB connection string. Beware that if such datasource is a connection pool, it should be configured to not force closing of unused connections. JR uses long living connections.
