Well, according to the error message, you're still using Derby. You know that multiple magnolia.properties can be loaded, right ? ( Read the following link - you should not need to have different war files - http://documentation.magnolia-cms.com/cookbook/using-a-single-war-file-with-multiple-configurations.html )
Check the startup logs, Magnolia should log which config file(s) it's loading. Based on that, you might be able to see what's wrong.
