IIRC there are two fundamentally different approaches - you can use OSGi components to build Magnolia, or you can make Magnolia an OSGi component to build bigger application suites. The latter has been done by some guys from Switzerland about two years ago: http://www.inteco.ch/ If you are interested I am happy to connect you with the person in charge of their efforts.
