Content in data repository doesn't have any templates assigned. It's not meant to be displayed like this. You can still iterate through the list of items from data repo, but the template in which you are iterating such items has to know how to render them. (Although at least in theory it should be possible to actually assign templates to data type items and use them this way ... but afaik, there's currently no UI element that would allow you to assign the template)
