Easiest is to reduce the number of versions to store (somewhere under /server) and then activate (or save in case of DMS when versionOnSave is set to true) the content. If you want to do that selectively, you need to retrieve the content and then remove versions using the API. Since some recent version of Magnolia there should be a command to run to wipe out no longer used binaries from datastore ... should be documented somewhere.
