Hi Lauri, The answer to your question is, I think, that magnolia instances are not necessarily 100% the same.
If you were to move all the JARs into CATALINA_HOME/lib, I think Magnolia should normally work ok (but I have not tried it out!). However, this will mean that ALL installed instances of magnolia on this Tomcat will include exactly the same set of modules. It could be that you want different modules on author and public instances. Some modules may not be needed on the public instances at all (eg. soft-locking). Also, you won't be able to upgrade the webapps individually, since modifying the modules will immediately affect all instances running in this tomcat... Personally, I find it ok that the magnolia webapps are self-contained. It means they can be moved around from tomcat to tomcat, upgraded, deinstalled or modified individually, which gives you more flexibility. What's 32MB in the days of Terabyte drives? Close to nothing! Regards from Vienna, Richard -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Im Auftrag von Lauri (via Magnolia Forums) Gesendet: Mittwoch, 09. Thats mainly because both instances: author and public bear libs. Why don't you deploy *.jar files to some shared folder? That would save at least 32Mbs? And more general question: is it possible to download fresh tomcat distro, copy magnoila dependencies to ${catalila_home}/lib and deploy lightweight instances of magnolia?
