I tried to reproduce Cedrics problem (on Mag 4.5.3) and I'm a bit puzzled:
Let's say, we have a "stage" node on the "home" page and a "about" page
underneath the "home" page.
${content.@handle} gives -> "/home/about"
${content.stage!'no stage'} -> "no stage"
${content?parent.stage} -> "stage"
So far this is expected behavior. Now…
${cmsfn.inherit(content).stage!'no stage'} -> still "no stage"
Why? On Magnolia 4.4.x this worked flawlessly:
${mgnl.inherit(content).stage}
Ist this a bug in 4.5 or am I doing something wrong?
