Hello Erando Is there are reason you defined this directly in the page definition instead of within the component definition karussell itself? Other than that, yes it's true, you can also define further areas in components. And what exactly is not working? It's hard to tell since I don't see the subarea's configuration on there, maybe something is missing in there or you have a typo somewhere.
