Hi Georg, For the community edition, this question does not normally arise as there is only 1 subscriber. So the subscriber either gets the activation request or not. If the subscriber is unreachable, the activation fails, and has to be manually restarted.
For the enterprise edition there could be multiple subscribers, so the situation could arise where one subscriber is not reachable, but the others are. In the enterprise edition, the transactional activation module takes care of this situation. In transactional activation, either all subscribers complete the activation, or the activation is rolled back on all subscribers. However, in case of a rollback, it is still up to the editor to manually restart the activation. Note that if using the workflow module (enterprise edition), it would be fairly easy to create a workflow which retries activations after a certain delay if the first attempt fails.
