Source jars are also published to Magnolia's Nexus instance: 
http://nexus.magnolia-cms.com/

You can download those yourself via the web interface or have Maven do it for 
you if you have a Maven project using Magnolia. Whenever I am working on a 
Magnolia Maven project in my IDE and want to see the source of a particular 
Magnolia class I just open it and click 'Add sources' if I don't have them 
locally yet. Or I can run 'mvn dependency:sources' to download all source jars 
for all dependencies in my POM. Works great.

While you should be able to download the source directly via Git, I've never 
felt the need to go that route.
