Hi, first time poster so excuse any etiquette breaks please?

Right, we have a number of users who belong to a group within a group (bad 
practice but it works), however this subgroup cannot see the "Portal" (our 
front end menu). They have the same roles as all other groups in that umbrella 
group. The role is to see only a selection of the portal. The other umbrella 
groups have similar roles too, and work perfectly.

The umbrella group they are in has that role too, and we have tried removing 
it, in case of conflict, but this doesn't work either. I am pretty sure that 
all the basic settings are correct.

Could someone suggest any resolutions?

I'm afraid that due to the nature of the site I have to be vague. Apologies
