I need to allow editors to override the info contained in those inherited components
No, this is not possible with the default inheritance mechanism. An inherited component is only editable in one place: the ancestor page where it was first created. Editors cannot break inheritance somewhere in the middle of the chain and replace the component with another one. However, you are not the first to ask this question. It has been discussed on the forum a few times. http://forum.magnolia-cms.com/forum/thread.html?threadId=d8cd85c1-0a2f-4ef8-8949-8d3b70d32886 A proposed workaround is to create another page template that disables the inherited area but enables another identical area in the same location. The second area doesn't inherit components but allows adding them ad hoc. When an editor applies the page template to a page they see an empty area in the place where inherited components used to be. This approach requires editors to know a little more about templates but it essentially does what they ask. You can test this in the demo-features project. Look at the stkSectionWithTwoExtras template definition. It renders two extras areas: extras1 and extras2. [1] 1. Create two new template definitions - stkSectionWithExtras1Enabled and stkSectionWithExtras2Enabled - which extend stkSectionWithTwoExtras. 2. In stkSectionWithExtras1Enabled, enable extras1 and disable extras2. 3. In stkSectionWithExtras2Enabled, enable extras2 and disable extras1. 4. In stkSectionWithExtras1Enabled, enable inheritance in extras 1. 5. Create a deep page hierarchy where you apply both templates. Observe how you can "break" inheritance any time and "continue" it deeper down by changing the page template. [1] Tip: Special section templates like stkSectionWithTwoExtras are not available by default. Add them to /modules/multisite/config/sites/demo-features/templates/availability/templates first. -- Context is everything: http://forum.magnolia-cms.com/forum/thread.html?threadId=064a334c-f2b8-4cda-9780-1460bf9aa2ef ---------------------------------------------------------------- For list details, see http://www.magnolia-cms.com/community/mailing-lists.html Alternatively, use our forums: http://forum.magnolia-cms.com/ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <> ----------------------------------------------------------------
