Hi Dec, we did some tests running the upcoming 5.2.1 on Java 8. Once we fixed http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-5544 it looked quite promising. We'll keep an eye on it to be soon be able to support Java 8 (http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-5535). In case you'll experiment with it and run into issues, we'd be glad if you could report in our JIRA and link to MAGNOLIA-5535. Ta!
