Hi, If you don't change the default configuration, the tmp directory is created within your webapp directory, so under <TOMCAT>/webapps/magnoliaAuthor/tmp
If you are having trouble writing to this directory, the most likely reason is that you are starting tomcat using different users - if you start tomcat as root, and the directory is created as root, you will then not be able to write to it if you start tomcat as a non-root user the next time...
