Grégory i think you're onto something there. i'm using the latest JDK - 8.0.2. i had rebooted the pc this was running on to no effect. However i had some windows updates to run and now the site is displaying the images... (Hmm... appears i can't upload photos to this forum either... this is really limited forum functionality!) after ocr'ing the updates screen, this was what was installed.
