Hi Greg, No, no real use-case, just a matter of "visual" separation of Magnolia content and our custom data. I would be a nice feature, anyway definitely not the highest priority.
Btw. I've made a quick search in Jira, and according to issues mentioned in http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-999?focusedCommentId=13388&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-13388 it could be somehow possible using the CND notation.
