Hey there Heike You should do this in the field configuration of the app/upload and edit dialog (extending from the app) under [b]/modules/dam-app/apps/assets/subApps/detail/editor/form/tabs/asset/fields/resource[/b] (see [1], works on every dam upload field). Setting the property "allowedMimeTypePattern" to "image/png" would restrict the upload and editing to png only. You can also use a regex pattern for this allowing for more entries.
Opposite to your nasty error message (that I could reproduce), you get a much more usable warning about unsupported upload file type(s) instead.
