I am using Magnolia 2.0. I have a small number of pages, and working with
them in AdminCentral was no problem until recently.

What happens: I was trying to add a new page as a sub-page for an existing
page. As usual, the new page was created, named 'untitled'. Then I tried to
rename it, but it didn't change the name at all. Changing the template of
the newly created page also didn't work, at least not at first; only after
trying 5 times or so it would change.
I tried to create new pages under other pages with the same result. Copying
an existing page doesn't work either. Some days later, all existing subpages
were gone. Now I can't even create a new page; after clicking 'New page'
from the context menu, the tree will create some empty space just below the
'parent' page, but nothing happens. After refresh it appears there was no
page created.
I examined the debug log, but I can't find anything useful there. I just
found an error that says 'failed to list the child nodes of ...: : failed to
build path of ... .

This error indicates, that your repository has become corrupt.

Here's what you could do:

1) restart your instance and check again
2) move the corrupt page to a 'nirvana' location and try again
3) setup another instance and try to activate as much as you can.

Maybe it's an option for you to restore a backup from a still uncorrupted
version?

The best recommondation anyway is to upgrade to 2.1. See the release notes and the WIKI for howto's.

Good luck
