This is sort of a faq...

You cannot activate the password of the user you are currently logged in as.
Magnolia uses the credentials of the user who is currently logged in for 
activation.
So change back the superuser password, create new user with admin privilges, 
activate that user, lgon in as new user, change
password of superuser, activate superuser.

Oh and don't forget to either delet or chage the passwords for the other 
default users as well.

As a last resort, if your site is not yet publicly availabe you can also set 
server/admin to true on public. This will reenable the
modify user context menu. Change the password of superuser to be the same as on 
author and set admin back to false.
