Well hello list.

My name is Andrew Gumbrecht, and as a senior programmer at PROVOX I take full responsibility for the post that my colleague sent on Friday, so I would like to apologise to anyone who it so obviously offended.

However, I would first like to address the people who think it is rude to address an English list in German. Personally I think it is 'extremely' rude to presume that everyone who wishes to make a comment on Magnolia can speak English. The rudeness of some of your responses far outstrips the rudeness of speaking German!

We, as a company, obviously decided to use Magnolia because it is such a good product and a real step in the right direction, or would that have been a bad management decision? I feel like someone is trying to tell us, as a company, not to use Magnolia!

I will not be firing anyone for choosing to use an open source project, but I was concerned at the fact that each time an new version of this project was released to the public that it was/is left down to the community, and my colleague, to figure out how to build the source.

If the way the project is built has been changed when compared to a previous build, which it has, then I do not consider it to be excessive in any way whatsoever to request that the changes be documented, do you?

The fact that some important information may have been discussed by certain parties on many occasions does not mean that everyone interested in that information was present at the time of the discussion. That is why the Magnolia project provides documentation to the wider community.

The efforts of participating developers are in no way being undervalued by PROVOX or our employees. As a thirteen year old software company we understand the development process can be a slow and sometimes painful process. Magnolia should rightly be proud that it is finding greater user acceptance. It is however equally wrong of certain individuals to assume that the promotion of a product is a privilege merely because it is open source. We all know that many open source projects have achieved commercial success simply because the project did not take 'customers' sometimes negative input with a pinch of salt.

It is merely being requested that when important information required to build the Magnolia project has changed that this information is provided as a simple 'readme' file in the repository. I am convinced that other developers using and developing on the Magnolia platform will agree, but it appears that the community continues to adopt an aggressive attitude towards anyone who dares to voice an opinion?

So to conclude, I again apologise for placing undue pressure on my colleague in addressing this matter. I do have to add that I am disappointed that the community has treated my colleague in this way. As an individual so rightly pointed out in a rather less positive manner, they were only trying to do their job.

Your time is as valuable as our own.

Regards,

Andrew Gumbrecht.
