Yes I have planned this for a long time and in fact at the moment we are looking for two projects to be sponsored

- ADS adapter
- portlet bridge

The development effort for each of these is roughly 20k CHF
* ADS will allow to use Magnolia with user management through ADS
* the portlet stuff will allow to do some fancy stuff with Magnolia inside portlet containers

I plan to start a new section on the website asap to document these

If any of you SI's or agencies is interested in sponsoring these, please let me know. The way it works is that you sell the feature to your customer (optional :-) ), and once its sold, you decide upon the amount you are willing to invest in the feature. Once the full amount is covered through one or more companies, we start the work.

Any takers right now?

But in the end, salaries have to get paid.

exactly

A feature could have a price estimation. Companies/organizations could
bid for it, or negociate for a feature split.
One feature could be sponsored by multiple entities.

yes

Work would only begin once the money arrived.

exactly

(I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with such an idea)

you are not, but the idea is working in other places and we really need to get started on it

Such an infrastructure could not be limited to Magnolia, it could
benefit a pool of open source projects.

well, I would start small ( a web page ;-)) since we have no resources to build a complete system (or could we use ebay for it?)
