Hello Philipp,
with curl I tried:
curl -G -u superuser:superuser
http://141.14.239.180:8080/magnoliaPublic/.magnolia/mgnl-export -F
mgnlRepository=website mgnlPath=\/ mgnlFormat=true exportxml=Export
mgnlKeepVersions=true
... doesn't work, with version 2.1
What did I do wrong?

Does it make sense to !! incrementally !! backup the repository, for
example with a cron-job every night using standard linux backup
programs? Are the files in the repository modiefied (touched)
regularly (=> then, incremental backup based on time-stamps do not
make sense). What would you suggest?
Do not backup running repositories. Sooner or later you get problems.
It is still better than nothing.
I've seen the postings on import-export and backup-servlet, but I'd
rather use an external program.
.magnolia/mgnl-export and .magnolia/mgnl-import sevlets will help you
use http get to make a request (curl command will do this)
I am currently patching 2.1 to enable export and import from the root
