I think you are better off asking questions like this to the jackrabbit list.
But I know that the magnolia repository (not sure how recent versions) by
default use the persistence manager for BerkeleyDB
(org.apache.jackrabbit.core.state.bdb.BerkeleyDBPersistenceManager).
BerkeleyDB is a database, with which I guess jackrabbit is using JDBC for
connectivity.
