Well your idea worked so I'll go with that for now (thanks very much btw its a lifesaver!). Should I file a bug on this?

Perhaps if you could post a snippit of your code?

Here is what I suggest though:

<cms:adminOnly>
  <cms:newBar contentNodeCollectionName="name" paragraph="paragraph"/>
</cms:adminOnly>

Subject: Re: [magnolia-user] New bar still showing up on public instance

Jay,

        Sorry I'm still confused. We have editbars and other magnolia
controls all over our templates, but only the new bar is showing up
on the public site. In fact, its not even showing the new bar, its
just showing the word "new" along with the source for it. It seems
that if I had to surround every single magnolia tag with
<cms:adminOnly> then things would be showing up besides the newbar...

The adminOnly tag tells magnolia to only show whatever is inside of it
on the admin side only. The new bar doesn't have an idea of where
it is
located. If you request a new bar to be drawn, it will be drawn ...
that
is why you need to tell it to only be drawn on adminOnly.

Jay,

        Why do I need to have a <cms:adminOnly> tag around it if its in

public mode? I can confirm that server/admin is set to false in my
public instance...

You've likely either got the public instance in admin mode or you
don't
have an adminOnly tag around the new bar in your code.

Hello,

        We've got a problem on our public instance. Seems magnolia is
trying
to insert the "new" bar on a page when it shouldn't be showing it at
all. Looking at the source it appears its still trying to insert all
the mgnl code. Its not showing edit bars or any other magnolia
controls... any idea?

Thanks,
