Let me say some words as a core developer:
The free and open 3.0 is much better than the 2.1. Will say that the
core system including important add-ons is still free and open. But
please allow us to fund our work by selling an even better featured
and professional supported magnolia.
There is no loss for the community if we can better fund the project.
I think the new release shows this clearly.
