yeah, that helped! sorry for this fault...
the solution was to recheck editors password on both instances "public"
and "author"! although the nodes were marked active (green - activated)
in my author instance, after the redeployment of the public instance the
password of user "editor" in this instance (of course...) wasn't correct.

how to enable activation access for a user other than 'superuser'?
when I try to activate some page with the editor user a "can't activate"
exception from the public instance is thrown:
Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: http://...
btw activation is working with superuser...
any suggestions?
