I read something in the specification of the jcr regarding relevance.
download the specification of jcr/jcp-170 here

look at p.96 ff.
Additionally you should look at the source code for the simple search
tag, try to understand what is done there and then try to add scoring
according to the jcr-specification- I don't know in which way
jackrabbit implements the scoring (I think it's up to the
implementation how scores are generated).
