Good guess, David. I took a closer look at the error and noticed a permission denied error. 2 of the files in my work directory were owned by another user. I deleted them, restarted Tomcat, and was good to go. Thanks for your help.

On the outside guess, I've heard of instances where problems occur in tomcat's work directory -- files get locked, flagged read-only, etc., .... You could try stopping tomcat, clearing the work directory, and then restarting.
