Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the sitedesigner the red layout bar?

the sitedesigner is what is accessible via the red bars. in that sense, yes.

If so, isn't that just really a parameterized style sheet?

t's also a lot more than this. sitedesigner includes a vast number of content types. but also, you are right, it is a parameterized style sheet.

(Just what we, and my guess is a lot of other people, were already doing for a long long time in the page properties...)

I read the - "updates are painless, since no custom templates are involved" - line... Aren't we using the 'custom template' supplied by magnolia here ('siteDesigner.jsp')?

templates are in most cases not required anymore as you can build most layouts with sitedesigner.

Any additions on this layout are not possible to build inline at all. The layout is set in this jsp, but just with a lot of properties.

with sitedesigner you can define the areas of a website, build columns, set color and font properties and a lot more. the topmost red bar works as an access to general layout properties, in which you can define all areas that should be displayed. after that, you will have another red bar for each of these sections by which you can access the layout properties of each area.

And I guess the supplied layout won't do on many occasions...

we have built several pages using sitedesigner without additional templating. if you wish so, we would be glad to send you some examples. contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] for getting in touch with us directly.

let us assure you that within little time a full documentation on magnolia 3.0 and sitedesigner will be launched and accessible on documentation.magnolia.info.

So if that is the Sitedesigner, can anyone explain what the fuss is about on the magnolia website? You can't really design anything with it, just manage an exisiting magnolia design, and possibly overrule some css classes....

as the first thing you get is an empty page with a red bar, you can use this as a starting point for building quite any design you like.

sincerely
