Hi Will,

Magnolia 3.0.2 is due for release fairly soon I think, and that will
include the latest jackrabbit version as far as I know. I think it
should be just a plug-in jar replacement, but I'm not sure how heavily
it has been tested with Magnolia yet, so I wouldn't switch a live
installation right now. If you can wait until 3.0.2 is out that will
be the safest option.

If you're using the default Derby persistence manager then there are
definitively benefits to switching to a different option. I have been
using the new MySQL persistence manager in production for a while now,
and I haven't had any problems. It is almost certainly more reliable
than Derby, and I 'think' it's faster, although I haven't got any test
results to back that up!

There are details of the MySQL persistence manager in the wiki, and
the mailing list archive, so give that a try. As you found, the old
wiki URL seems to be broken at the moment (has been for a while), but
you can still get to it via: http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/

Don't know anything about CQFS, and haven't seen it mentioned on the
magnolia lists, so I would try the other options above first before
looking into that.

Hope that helps,

Simon

We're not dealing with huge sites (i.e. france24.com) but rather
small SMB sites. Still, we're often faced with performance issues.
Some of them we were able to solve with one or the other workaround
(i.e. = "hacks"). Still, some remain and leave us a bit clueless.

Therefore my questions: What are the options to improve performance?
(EE is not an option!)

On the Jackrabbit website I found out that newer versions are available
- Has anyone tried them? Do they help performance wise?
- Can one simply exchange the jackrabbit JAR?

Further info on the Jackrabbit website tells me that one could try
different persistance managers.
- What are your experiences here?
- Where is the bottleneck usually? The persistance manager or is it
Jackrabbit itself?

Finally also on this website there are some notes about CQFS.
Apparently this seems to be very fast on Windows.
- Is it also a good option on Solaris (not just Windows)?
- Any first hand experiences here anyone?

I guess I _could_ find some answers on the WIKI, but what happened to
it?!
http://wiki.magnolia.info/ currently takes you back to the Magnolia
Homepage...

Regards,
Will
