The fact, that now one replied to this question pretty much gives me the answer: It is not possible.

DMS documents are being delivered via their own servlet (info.magnolia.module.dms.DMSDownloadServlet). This handles stuff a bit differently than the Magnolia servlet. Why? I don't know - did not have the time to dig this far.

The DMSDownloadServlet apparently is a one trick dog: It wants to hand out documents. And "sub documents" are not part of this plan. Therefore, when trying to get the "sub document" it crashes because it cannot determine the file size.

Previews would be a nice feature in the dms though...

Will

I'm having my share of problems trying to extend the dms with a preview image. I did extend the dialog and was able to upload a preview file for the document that was already in the dms, and I'm also able to check if there is a preview file... but strange enough, when I try to access the preview file, I always get an empty file. Filename and extension is o.k., but the file has zero bytes!

I must be definitely doing something wrong because this cannot be that difficult... Anybody already managed to do the same thing?
