I could think of two possible solutions:

1. Do not use simpleNav but rather your own navigation mechanims. Then, when you loop through the page nodes to be displayed in the nav, check for the template and hide/show the item. 2. Add a scriptlet to the template you would like to hide which sets the "do not show this page in navigation" node value to true each time the page is displayed in the author instance. This is an ugly hack and not 100% bullet proove. But it will most likely work for you.
