I have been thinking to that problem too and at the moment I can't see how it can work together. Instead we have chosen the following approach: we write JSF applications (when needed) who access Magnolia content (wrapping, or getting html content, or getting XML content)

The problem (with JSF ) is the template mechanism. Magnolia uses a quite complex filtering / handling to generate the html pages from the templates. While JSF has a well defined lifecycle, which doesn't fit the mechanism of magnolia. Also the navigation differs a lot. If you come to a solution, please let me know.
