There is not a problem accessing the file i.e. if I copy the 'link
address' which is output by magnolia on the page, and manually enter
this in a browser then it opens the file no problem. It's just that
clicking on the link, which magnolia outputs, results in absolutely
nothing happening.

Well, let me ask again: have you tried putting your static html test page on a remote server? It might be your browser willing to protect you from some malicious page. Entering the url yourself in the browser's bar is a different story, I guess the browser can assume you know what you're doing, which it can't necessarily do when you're clicking a random link on a page it doesn't know you're controlling.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I cannot work out how to insert a hyperlink to a file on another
server
that is not a web server. I've tried inserting the code in a text and
image paragraph e.g. <a href="file:///S|/error.pdf">link</a> but this
does not work for some reason. This html does work if you insert it
into
a standard static html page and run it.

Have you tried putting that page on a remote web server? It might be
a browser security issue/protection.
(esp. if you checked that the generated html did not mess up the link)

Cheers

Why not in magnolia? (I have
taken a look at the source code on the magnolia produced page, and
there
doesn't appear to have been any strange formatting messing up the
link).

Cheers for any help,

Chris
