Indeed it has nothing to do with maven as well as it has nothing to do with netbeans ... the index folder is created by Nexus indexer. For more details about nexus see http://docs.codehaus.org/display/M2ECLIPSE/Nexus+Indexer And to answer your next question, no we don't run nexus over magnolia repositories (at least not yet).
