It is definitely worth a look. Need to define what level of integration you wish to have. I think the ability to create a page in Magnolia and use it (with a slightly different template) as the newsletter is paramount for such an integration.
By the way, I really suggest to move this discussion off list. Please start a concept page on the Magnolia wiki, and let us write down our ideas there.
