Just back from seeing 'Hugo in 3D' ! (for a second time)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970179/

Directed by Martin Scorsese and I have to wonder just how much of this amazing
film was the result of his directing
talents , and how much was also the result of other unknown technical directors
, masters well versed in very complex
CGi , and of others also , who seem to be masters of planning/shooting 3D
Stereo environments for maximum impact .

Well , we'll probably never know unless one is lucky enough to be subscribed
to CineFex , or maybe are in
some of the Cinematic forums , with members who have an ear to the grapevine .
Stayed for the credits and
the CGi army was huge ... ILM was also involved and I was not surprised when
their crew credits flowed .

Please don't believe the incredibly venomous reviews . Wow , I almost did too.
Guessing by the Box Office tally's ,
many , many theatre goers have decided to spend their money elsewhere .
Slander is legal , when it comes to
negative movie reviews that have the distinct purpose and intent of severely
limiting patronage !

Decades ago , theatre punks would sit up front and laugh at the dramatic parts
and boo during a film's very best moments
in an effort to simply reduce the screening's legitimacy , and it's box office
success . Seems this criminal tactic is alive
and well even still , just in a different form (the incredibly sadistic ,
anonymous forum review) .

You can easily experience this just by watching a popular syndicated Talk-show
and listening to the paid 'Screamers' in
the crowd when an unknown guest or band is introduced . We've all heard the
crazy reactions to 'Joe-Blow The Unknown'
(but probably never really paid all that much attention to the incredible ear
piercing noises) .

HUGO is not a kid's film . Don't bring the little ones because it runs long
and they simply will not get it anyway . Do bring
them to see half of this movie one time and the second half at another time .
It's more expensive but it's worth it .

The creators could have shortened it and also could have went for the
'Kiddies' niche market , but something tells me
that this thought never even entered into the equation . There seems a terribly
distinct purpose to the storytelling .

'Hugo' is an adult film , sans the sex & violence-carrot-on-a-stick that we
have become somewhat used to exp-
eriencing (and perhaps sometimes even crave from time-to-time) .

'Experiencing' is a very good word , I think . The 3D experience is often a
much richer and more rewarding viewing
exploration , when it is presented properly . More realistic with a much
greater sense of actually 'being right there' .

'There' in that place and being in that time and that culture as well . Such
is the case of this very interesting 3D film .

Many still feel that 3D stereo is still nothing more than a kind of hula-hoop
gimmick that should probably remain in the
50's . There's been many 2nd/3rd and 4th rate attempts which have done nothing
to further this amazing art's potential .

'Hugo' is 1st class . In many aspects it is a kind of a turning point and not
merely for it's 3D .

Scorsese did his critical job of making sure that we had a great 2D film .
Started with a good story and then worked a
very familiar special magic . His many personal influences on all aspects of
traditional arts throughout the project , from
stem to stern , are there in one form or another , one would imagine .

Combine his directing talents with not only, extremely expensive
state-of-the-art CGi which blends so seamlessly with the
film's "analog" portions , but also with the , always very dynamic 3D stereo
F/X , and the result is a brand new chapter (or
two) in the ever evolving 'Filmaker's Textbook' .

This movie's very successful blending of several distinct arts results in a
combination that may now finally pave the way
for others to follow , almost like a blueprint . As we look at the screen we
cannot help but consider the incredible poss-
ibilities for entertainment and exploration that the future may bring .

If you like 3D and CGi in general , you will enjoy 'HUGO in 3D' (stereo) . If
you're a little bit of a film critic also , chances
are you will truly enjoy the experience .

See it and judge for yourself .

Cheers ,
gc
