As the world is slowly leaving the past behind x64 (from Intel and Amd) because their design is a self pain inflicting CISC architecture that now take more power and transistors to decode the variable length instructions (that are extremely hard to predict and the little designs flaws like the returnAddress always stored on the slow memory stack (probably in L1 caches) instead of a fast LINK register like on ARM, for leaf functions) than the actual execution of code.
So the CISC design is not a bottleneck, but a dead end. Not only that, but the SOC design is the clear winner over traditional PCB full of video card, sound card... Just to get the power/speed than an 300$ Oculus Quest 2 has, it would cost you 2 000$ on a PC. The ARM XR chipset can stream and analyze 7 HD cameras at zero cpu cost. Apple has made the move to ARM and will discontinue everything Intel this october. They are gonna be much cheaper, much more powerful and the battery will last 5x longer. An ARM cpu cost 5-30$ max to the manufacturers. x64 will die, ARM will dominate and RISC-V will be the new ARM. Also Desktop, Consoles and Screens (TV, Monitors, Projectors) will die because everything will be in AR glasses form soon (5 years?). Check for Facebook's Project Aria. Microsoft is already ready for ARM, Windows 10 is running on ARMS. Amazon is also using their own custom ARM servers and they smoked x64. Not only Amazon AWS's ARM server cpu are faster, they use less power, they do not heat (less AC), they require less space and they cost almost nothing to produce. What I see now in the 3D software is a massacre. Strata3D has been unsuccessfully trying to make their software run on macOS in x64 only (Apple forbid the execution of x86 32bit code) for the past 5 years and now Apple is moving to ARM? They will never recover and never succeed. Strata 3D is dead. Electric Image (EIAS3D) has now moved to x64 only with their upcoming new release and Thomas told me that he would be ready for ARM, but I am not sure about that. And all the others won't be able to port to ARM. Only Blender runs on ARM. So I see a future where only a few 3D app still remains. Of course there will be x64 emulation, but who want to do 3D on a slower emulation? No one. Will you wait 10 minutes instead of 5 for your render? Not me. The SOC design is always a winner, Intel cpus have zero AI stuff included, no no AR, no VR, no Encryption, no Compression, no Video chips included. Only a useless spying hidden 486 cpu (that cannot be turned off) required by the Mossad, MI6 and NSA since 2006. Both Intel and AMD have a backdoor cpu inside their cpu. China and Huawei are already 100% ARM with their own design. ARM will replace x64 for the same reason we now use LED lights (except ARM are 10-20x cheaper than x64). Will Realsoft survive the transition, can it be compiled to ARM arch? or there are too many x86 libraries linked to it or too many optimized assembly code? Anyway it does not matter because the newly redesigned Blender has already murdered every other software including Houdini. Most studios have moved away from Maya, 3DS, C4D, Houdini (Houdini is still the best for procedural) to Blender. Ubisoft have completed the transition. Most studios have decided to finance Blender instead of paying lazy big companies. And 90% of the youth master Blender, so if you look for people able to work on Maya or 3DS, there is no one. PS : I am still waiting for 60 fps viewports in Realsoft3D. lol. I would pay for the upgraded viewports. But I am sure at this point, you are not in it for the money.
