Can you post the obtained message? I've not yet seen any UML machine crashing 
by a "ls" on hostfs.

However, what does unionfs do (at least from the user viewpoint)? Can you also 
supply the URL (sorry for my laziness but I'm really busy).

Nobody tried such a combination (for what I'm aware).
