Hi. I persist in having problems with the 1.5 JDK running on UML. These problems have been reported by other users. I have a few steps, described below, which should enable you to reproduce the problem on any a debian or redhat based distro.

I would be most obliged if a kernel developer type would take a look at reproducing the problem (maxing out CPU when JDK 1.5 is running for a while) and any suggestions on how to improve the situation. If you don't find anything, that's fine. I just want to know if someone has at least looked.

Regards, Peter

OK. The filesystem is a few hundred MB all tarred/gzipped up. Plus you may not trust the binaries on my filesystem.

So how about a script to setup the test environment? I've tested this setup script on a debian file system, FC3 system and WBEL3 distro. The scripts may need tweaking on other distros.

Download this:
http://downloads.rimuhosting.com/installjava.sh

Comment out the 1.4.2 file/dir at the top. Uncomment the 1.5 file/dir variables

Run that script (it will install the 1.5 JDK).

Run http://downloads.rimuhosting.com/installtomcat5.sh

It will install tomcat5.5.7 under /usr/local/tomcat. Add a tomcat user. And an /etc/init.d/tomcat stop/start/kill script.

Run ab as per my original email (ab is part of apache).

I've reproduced the problem on a debian, fc3 and WBEL3 distro.

If you would prefer the file system, let me know and I'll send a URL.

It would be much more useful for you to make a filesystem available which
has everything in it needed to reproduce the problem.
