First: why do you need to use ethertap and not tuntap? ethertap is for many 
reasons worse, slower, and less secure.

Second (which is a consequence): ethertap was deprecated, so while it's 
possible that you didn't find the .config option, it could have been removed. 
I'm not checking right now in absence of a reason.
