It must hang but the question is "where's gdb"? I guess ps auxw|grep gdb will 
have more hints (and probably there will be some pty allocated 
under /dev/pts, or something like that).

No idea, maybe seeing at least the URL of the script (or better if it's little 
enough pasting it inline) will help the reader (no, nobody will ever go and 
look for the message on the forum).

Btw, if it's an email on the uml-devel mailing list (as it seems), using the 
archives at marc.theaimsgroup.com works better.

Finally, publishing that script into the Wiki (uml.harlowhill.com) will help 
other users.
