First: I'm throwing blind guesses and I haven't the time to analyze them, so 
be careful with these suggestions.

It was CONFIG_COMPAT_VDSO, present in git HEAD (I dunno 2.6.17) - the bug may 
depend on this (you actually have a new glibc, but maybe it is UML the old 
one).
This page recommended disabling the VDSO, I do not know what would be the 
result of fiddling with this (including a non-working system).

I.e. they were started before the glibc update so they still work, right?
