run 'free' - it should show some swap space.

Thanks for your reply.
OK will try a force the UML to use swap space.
I just wante to know why the UML stack oveflow when a small amount of memroy
is used.
I think the 29M memory was just too small to handle larger apps - such as
installing vim or ssh via apt-get.

To anwer your 'aside'

I use these kernelts for as production servers running web servers, samba,
ldap etc.
I use the Debian stable part of the distribution for stablitily reasons and
found the 2.4.27. guest kernel
to be one the most stable for these systems.
I have not yet tested newer host or guest kernels I still very new to UMLS
(A few months ago I had not known agout UMLS)
Which would you suggest?

It works - I've had a UML ~500M into swap for the last 5 days.
