Hi,
I am trying to install a Fedora UML image over NFS and I'm having some
issues. From a couple of websites I found it looks like it should be
possible:

http://linuxhacker.ru/uml/
http://web.archive.org/web/20060110182253/http://toast.debian.net/~may/umlproject/install.html

I have installed the UML utilities on the host and compiled a UML kernel
using 2.6.21.1 with initrd, cramfs, ramdisk, nfs support, etc. all
compiled into the kernel. I downloaded the Fedora Core 4 initrd.img file
from:

ftp://ftp.mirrorservice.org/sites/download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/i386/os/isolinux/initrd.img

and started UML using:

./linux noprobe initrd=initrd.img mem=128M ramdisk=10240 con=xterm
con0=fd:0,fd:1 eth0=tuntap,,,172.16.0.123

The Fedora Core installer appears in one of the xterm's and asks me to
choose a language, a keyboard layout, and an installation method (cdrom,
hard disk, nfs, ftp, or http). When I attempt to select one of the
network installation methods I get a message saying "No driver found"
and it then asks me to select a driver from a list, or use a driver
disk. It's at this point that I am completly stumped - from what I have
found it looks like it should just work. I downloaded a pre-built
Slackware root filesystem image from the UML website and that boots
successfully using the same kernel that I used for Fedora and the
networking works fine.

My reason for wanting to create a UML image using Fedora over NFS is
that I have a number of Fedora Core 4 kickstart scripts that I use to
quickly build and configure various different servers, and was
interested in using the same setup to quickly build and configure
different UML images. Has anyone else tried this?

Thanks in advance,
- David
