init does start, but for whatever reason, it fails to make progress.

The usual reason is something causing a segfault, which can't be fixed
by mapping in a page.  So, init just takes an infinite series of
segfaults, and the UML just appears to hang.

uml_mconsole <umid> sysrq t

Attach gdb to the UML, put a breakpoint on show_regs, and in another
shell, uml_mconsole <umid> stack <pid>.  gdb will hit the breakpoint
in the context of the desired process and you can examine the stack.
